Criminal Minds AU: Seaver Returns

When the BAU comes across a striking human trafficking case that requires an extra set of skilled eyes, they get assistance in a big way as Andi Swann sends them two of her best agents from the FBI’s own Human Trafficking Unit to help solve it: SSA Elliot Santos and SSA Ashley Seaver.
With a new title, new mindset, and a new look, Seaver is thrilled to get the chance to work with her old team again and as Santos works his magic in the field, she stays behind to go back to her old profiling ways as well as to catch up on not just the good things she’s missed but the bad things along with them.
Although the case proves to be stressful and filled with bumps that lead to a shoot-out in the streets where she and Santos are resorted to using their vehicle as a shield, everyone walks away from the case feeling like they’ve succeeded once the runner of the ring they’ve targeted is carted away in handcuffs.
Seaver may have left the BAU a long time ago, but she’s certainly never adverse to coming back every so often.

30 Days of the Criminal Minds Ladies

Day 11: Thoughts on Ashley Seaver
So, I believe that Ashley Seaver’s character was full of potential, but not in the BAU.
First of all, the BAU is supposed to be an elite team of profilers. It’s very unlikely they would need help from a cadet, no matter how brilliant he would be. The way she was introduced left me with the impression that EAB has no idea what he is doing. Really, would it have been that hard to write her as just a young, inexperienced profiler instead of a cadet? At least it would have made the storyline more believable. The fact that her father was a serial killer is the reason they need her opinion is something I find quite ridiculous. I mean, it’s not like she knew about it until the FBI came knocking on their door. Of course later, as she grew up, she started realizing and observing patterns in her father’s behavior but I don’t think that that’s a reason why she should work with elite profilers.
Now, regarding her personality. She’s driven and ambitious because she is one of the best cadets in the academy. She’s honest and confesses she never visited her father in prison. Her father and his behavior have obviously determined her personality as well, and her feelings are still not cleared up. I liked her but the circumstances in which her character was introduced were really not the best ones. The team members (and us) were still recovering from JJ’s loss and some took her as JJ’s replacement, which she’s not. Still, I believe she’s a wonderful character and towards the end, we see her integrate in the group. She’s trolling Reid, going to the movies with him, Garcia and Morgan. Not to mention the father-daughter relationship she had with Rossi.
I would have loved to see her grow in season 7. Graduating from the academy, becoming a certified profiler, the team supporting her, maybe even a storyline arc about her father. Like I said, she had a lot of potential.
