JJ was born on a farm on Eden Prime, and led a rather sheltered life. When she was eleven, her older sister committed suicide, leaving the family in disarray. After that, all JJ wanted to do was escape colony life and see the galaxy, away from the painful memories.
She attended a university on Terra Nova, and enlisted afterwards, serving as a communications specialist. Her talent for her job attracted the attention of Jason Gideon, who enlisted her for his special forces team aboard the SSV Bau.
As the comms specialist she is largely responsible for the assignments the team undertake, whether they are given to the alliance or impromptu. She found the quarian distress signal that led to the rescue of Elle, and pinpointed the broadcast point of the place Reid was being held captive. She will often insist on investigating signals that would otherwise be ignored, and more often than not it pays off.
Her father was killed in the collector attack on Eden Prime, and her mother escaped because she was visiting her own mother off-world.
Her partner, Will, is a C-Sec officer who took leave to look after their young son Henry, though as he gets older Will is going back to work. JJ tries to get home when she can, but mostly she has to keep up with her son via comm links.
Recently she has been undertaking arms and combat training at the encouragement of her peers, which will enable her to go in the field as required. She is proving skilled with assault weapons and diversionary tactics, as well as close-range melee combat.
